Guidance

Four counselors provide students with considerable personal attention and assistance throughout their years at St. Thomas. Counselors meet with students and parents individually and in groups to discuss both academic and personal concerns. Counselors work in scheduling students to place them in courses which they will find challenging but not overwhelming.

Post-secondary planning begins in the freshman year and continues into the senior year. Small groups of freshmen meet to develop study and communication skills, sophomore groups begin the career exploration process, juniors meet on the college selection process, and senior groups meet on the college admissions process.

The Guidance Department Library maintains current college and university catalogs, information about college testing, and reference books about colleges and admissions. Career and college database programs, which are updated annually, are provided for research.

Representatives from colleges across the nation visit St. Thomas to recruit qualified students. While many St. Thomas graduates attend selective colleges, our primary goal is to ensure that every student is placed in a post-secondary setting appropriate to his or her needs and talents.
