Garin DeButts Memorial Scholarship Application

The Garin DeButts Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the memory of Garin DeButts, who passed away at the age of 16 on July 14, 2024. Garin was about to enter his junior year at St. Thomas Aquinas High School. He was a well-rounded young man with talents and interests that spanned many activities. Garin was an active member of the Boy Scouts, achieving the distinguished rank of Life Scout and contributing hundreds of hours of community service. He had a profound love of nature and enjoyed hammock camping, rock climbing, zip lining, and fishing. Garin was also passionate about sports, playing youth hockey and competing as a member of the STA hockey team. In addition, he played lacrosse for many years and was an accomplished diver, earning his Open Water Diver Certificate. He enjoyed skiing, gaming, and spending time with his beloved pets. Garin cherished his family and friends and had a contagious smile that is dearly missed.

Scholarship Criteria
A scholarship will be awarded to a well-rounded student with diverse hobbies and activities. Applicants are required to submit the following information:

Essay describing how your dedication and effort across various activities, both in and outside the classroom, have influenced your personal development and positively impacted your community. Discuss how your efforts and commitment, irrespective of academic standing, have made a meaningful difference in your life and the lives of others.

One letter of recommendation from a current STA faculty member that highlights the effort you consistently demonstrate in the classroom. The faculty member should then email or deliver the recommendation directly to Mrs. Bolduc at sbolduc@stalux.org.
