Last June, St. Thomas Aquinas bid a fond farewell to science teacher Mr. Bill Dinan as he entered into retirement. Stepping into his classroom this fall is Mr. Chrys Demos. His enthusiasm for teaching and his excitement about joining the STA Family has us all ready to visit his 4th floor classroom to see all that is in store for his students. Welcome, Mr. Demos!
My prior teaching experience is in Wells High School and Sacopee Valley High School. I have taught AP Physics, AP Chemistry, STEM, Robotics, and Electronics. My previous STEM classes built:
- a human powered hydrofoil vessel for gliding over water in the harbors where speed is limited boat wakes are regulated.
- a new composite roofing material that embeds solar cells to generate electricity through the roof.
- a human powered submarine which can independently race other similar submarines in a pool without touching the bottom, breaking the water surface, or veering off course.
I am excited to teach in a school that rewards the curious, and respects the individual. Many testimonies from former students, colleagues, and parents have ranked STA very highly. I have met the staff and administration and overwhelmed by the amount of support for scholarship and academic rigor at STA.
I have two daughters in college, one studying medical imaging and radiography, the other taking general education courses as an undeclared major. I live in Wells, Maine but am originally from the coast of Connecticut. My wife is a long time mixed-media artist and works at the Ogunquit Playhouse but has spent the last ten or so years as a librarian.
I play jazz upright bass professionally in the Blue Note Big Band, curate a monthly series jazz performance in Cambridge MA, and have been featured on a variety of studio recordings. I also build and design analog electronic music synthesizers. Electronics, music, sailing, and restoring old boats are my passions outside of teaching.
The world has so much to offer, I look forward to what my students can share with me!
And we at St. Thomas Aquinas look forward to sharing Mr. Demos with our students! Welcome Home!
