STA Welcomes New Associate Principal

Melissa Gismervik

Dear STA Community:

It gives me great pleasure to take this time to introduce you to our new Associate Principal/Dean of Students, Mrs. Melissa Gismervik. Melissa has extensive experience in Catholic schools both at the high school and college levels and she comes to us with outstanding credentials and recommendations. She is already hard at work getting to know the school inside and out, and she is sure to be a great addition to our STA family.

I will send you a further list of the great changes, additions and improvements at school in our annual mailing later this summer, but I wanted to share this excellent news with you as soon as possible. I've also included below a brief statement that Mrs. Gismervik shared with the faculty this past week. It will give you a fine insight into her love of Catholic education.

"My commitment to Catholic education began as a recipient of its great benefits. Through grammar school, one year of high school, undergraduate and graduate school, I received not only knowledge, but I was guided, I was corrected, and most importantly, I was loved. These values helped me to realize I was supposed to be committed to these tenets and others at a higher level. After graduating from The Catholic University of America (Go Cardinals!), I began as a Religious Studies teacher in December of 2008 and continued to embrace various roles at St. Joseph High School in Trumbull, CT. During this time I served as the Coordinator of Community Service then as the Religious Studies Department Chair. During my time at St. Joseph's, I obtained my Masters in Servant Leadership from Viterbo University and it continues to be a mentality I embrace. This past year, I served as a Campus Minster at St. Anselm College (Go Hawks!) with the Service and Solidarity program as my main focus."

Please welcome Melissa Gismervik to St. Thomas Aquinas High School and to our STA family.

God bless you.

Kevin J. Collins, Principal
