A Novel Act

Girl acting in play as Jane Eyre.
Ayla Walsh '21 masters her performance as Jane Eyre.

It’s not necessarily easy beginning high school. Freshmen have to adjust to new expectations, guidelines, and policies. They are surrounded by a new faculty, facility and friends. Despite these transitional inevitabilities, St. Thomas Aquinas High School prides itself on helping new Saints acclimate to our community in a positive, caring environment.

One particular freshman is not only navigating her way successfully through her first full month as an STA student, she is simultaneously starring in The Seacoast Repertory Theatre’s rendition of Jane Eyre. Ayla Walsh ’21 stars as a young Jane and is serving up a masterful performance.

Based on the novel by Charlotte Bronte, Jane Eyre is a five time Tony nominated musical adaptation by composer-lyricist Paul Gordon and writer John Caird. Jane Eyre is a hauntingly beautiful gothic romance and, as its young star, Ayla does a phenomenal job bringing this wonderful period drama to life.

Managing the rigor of high school academics with a grueling rehearsal schedule could overwhelm even the most professional student. Ayla, however, seems to take it all in stride and graces both the stage (and our hallways) with her ever-smiling presence.

Come see Ayla and her castmates in person from September 15-October 8 at The Seacoast Repertory Theatre. Tickets available at http://www.seacoastrep.org/.
