Fly High, Eagle

Senior Andrew Capello represents the character and meritorious virtues reflected in the Eagle Scout rank.

With his trademark hair and contagious laugh, senior Andrew Capello delivered the second student TOM Talk today to his STA peers, faculty and staff.  And he didn’t disappoint.

Outlining the long trajectory of an Eagle’s boy scouting career (Tiger Cub Scout to Webelo to Boy Scout to Eagle Scout), Andrew defined in both word and presence all that the rank entails. What some may view as young adults having fun camping or learning to tie knots is really an extensive and exhaustive (and sometimes exhausting) series of adventures.  Through the process of scouting, children proceed through a character development program unlike any other, one that tests their resilience, their leadership style and skills, and their ability to work successfully through a spontaneous set of details and random expectations.

One of the joys of working at St. Thomas Aquinas High School is having a daily opportunity to watch young men and women grow, develop and expand their horizons far beyond their own preconceived horizons. Andrew is a perfect example of mastering all that it takes to be both an extraordinary Scout… and an extraordinary Saint.
