Chris Herren Presents to STA Community

One could have heard a pin drop in the St. Thomas Aquinas gymnasium this morning.

Chris Herren, a basketball legend from Massachusetts, was an All-American. He broke scoring records and was recruited by the nation’s top colleges. Herren realized his lifelong dream of playing in the NBA when he was drafted by the Denver Nuggets in 1999 and then traded to his hometown team, the Boston Celtics in 2000, before losing his career and almost his family to the disease of addiction.

Since 2009, Chris Herren has spoken to over 1 million students and community members, sparking honest discussions on the topics of substance use disorder and wellness. A person in long-term recovery, Chris shares his story to challenge audiences to rethink how the disease of addiction is viewed and experienced.

Through the gracious gift of an anonymous donor, Mr. Herren came to STA and addressed our Saints, faculty, staff, and community members. His message was raw, powerful and hopefully reached the ears of those who most need to hear it.
