Alyson Bennett Smist, STA Alumna Class of 1999

Who’s one of our favorite “Women to Watch”?  STA Alumna Alyson Bennett Smist ‘99, that’s who!

WILMA's Women to Watch Awards (W2W) spotlights regional women who are the movers-and-shakers, the disruptors, the inspirations for successes to come. Applicants were from the following categories: Arts, Education, Health Care, Business, Public Service, Nonprofit/Volunteer and Rising Stars.

The winners of the Women to Watch Awards will be featured in the October issue of WILMA magazine and on the WILMA website, as well as honored at a special awards event on October 11. All Finalists will be announced through a social media campaign with the overall winners being announced on October 11th at a gala event.

Alyson Bennett Smist was one of 60 nominees in the Business Category, which is traditionally the largest and most competitive category. Only FIVE finalists were selected; this is one of the most sought-after awards for women in business in the Wilmington, NC region. As only her second year as Assistant General Manager of the Wilmington Sharks Baseball team, Alyson has increased both awareness of the team, community outreach through implementing a reading program, and incorporating several non-profits on her platform of baseball. Sales have increased 25% from her first year, with an increase of 55% from the year prior. With integrity, compassion and a fierce attitude, Alyson has put the team as one of the top 25 events during the summer months in the region.

We’ll be watching on Oct. 11 as seven winners will be announced but, regardless, Alyson already has our Saints Pride!
