Sunday marked the first day of the Advent season. The word “advent” (arrival of an important person or thing) is derived from the Latin word “adventus,” which means “coming.” On this day, we begin to prepare our hearts to receive Christ.
News, social media, judgments and loud opinions seek to strip us of optimism and hope, instead luring us into the traps of falsehoods and fear.
As Christians who seek to truly live with Joy, we rely on the theological virtue of Hope. Hope is believing that evil, death, and darkness don’t get the final word in life- God does.
As we enter the first week of Advent, we remind ourselves that we are not preparing for prizes, products or presents… we are preparing for a person.
