Linus Buhrman Scholarship Fund
Linus Buhrman ’93
Linus was a great spirit. He made it easy to love him and to love life. He embodied the true spirit of an angel. Anyone who attended St. Thomas between 1989 and 1993 will surely remember Linus Buhrman, class of 1993. Linus was the outgoing, larger-than-life personality who immediately lit up the hallway with his sense of humor and his smile. He was the kid who seemed to know more about business and the stock market than anyone should at that age. It seemed, everyone in the entire school knew Linus, and he befriended all he came in contact with.
Linus was taken from us far, far too early; he passed away July 6, 2002 at the age of 28 after a long, courageous battle with lymphatic cancer. One of Linus’ final and strongest wishes was to establish a scholarship fund at St. Thomas in his name to provide financial aid to a deserving incoming freshman who otherwise might not have the opportunity to attend the school.
You see, Linus learned, like so many of us, after graduating from St. Thomas and going on to other schools and endeavors, just how important the St. Thomas community is in the development of young adults. He recognized how strong a foundation St. Thomas lays for its students and what it can do to prepare them to face the challenges that await after they graduate, even if that challenge is facing a terminal illness. The impact and impression of the St. Thomas experience could not be embodied more than in Linus’ wish to set up this fund, giving of himself, so that others may benefit and reap the same rewards that we all have. The vision and hope is that Linus and his fund will be able to provide the means to provide scholarships for as long as St. Thomas provides quality education.

The first Linus Buhrman Scholarship will be awarded in the Fall of 2008 to a deserving freshman. In an effort to significantly grow the principal balance of the fund, a small committee has assembled to promote the campaign from June 1 to November 1, 2008. Gifts to the 2007-08 Aquinas Fund will continue to be accepted through June 30, 2008. If you would like to donate to the Linus fund, please contact the Advancement Office (603) 742-3206 x5241 or donate online.
