Winterterm

Winterterm is a four day academic program between semesters in January. During the Winterterm program, students and teachers concentrate on specialized and intensive courses that are beyond the scope of the regular academic curriculum.

Winterterm courses will focus on a particular area of interest or expertise of St. Thomas faculty or school community members. Students will experience an interactive environment focusing on less traditional approaches to learning. Because student participation is vital to the success of the Winterterm program and Winterterm is scheduled during the academic school year, school attendance rules apply

Independent Study

Rationale: St. Thomas Aquinas High School recognizes the importance of providing students with the opportunity to accept responsibility for their own educational program. The Winterterm Independent Study Program provides an opportunity for students to work independently on a self-directed, individualized program. Students who begin to individualize an educational program begin to identify the knowledge base, skills, and attitudes necessary to help them develop their own unique gifts. Such experiences contribute to the ultimate curriculum goal of producing active, life-long learners.

Independent Study Applications and the four day itinerary form must be completed and returned to Mr. Holtz by Friday December 7, 2007.
